Nintendo Wii
The Wii is a seventh-generation home video game console released by Nintendo in 2006. Code-named Revolution, Nintendo explains: "Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes this console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play." The Wii replaces the GameCube as Nintendo's primary game console and is backwards compatible with all GameCube games.
The Wii Remote or Wiimote, is a unique wireless hand-held pointing device which allows for direct movement in three dimensions. The controller was released to the general public at the September Tokyo Game Show in 2005. Other controllers include the Nunchuk, Wii Wheel, Wii Zapper and Classic Controller. Internet connectivity is provided by WiiConnect24.
